The Medical Science Liaison is the primary scientific expert and contact for medical professionals in pulmonary, surgical, and radiology specialties to effectively create dialogue regarding Polarean’s clinical data and technology at the local, regional, and national levels.


  • Develop and maintain peer relationships with medical and scientific experts, including healthcare professionals, managed care customers and patient advocacy organizations for scientific exchange
  • Develop an understanding of the regional landscape, including specialties, involved in care of patients
  • Identify pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing study investigators and provide insights in support of clinical development programs, including investigator sponsored studies, and patient registries evaluating use of Xenon MRI
  • Respond to unsolicited customer inquiries to provide focused and balanced clinical/scientific information that supports Polarean’s products and services
  • Maintain expertise in the evolving scientific/therapeutic area, disease state management, emerging therapies/technologies, and the competitive landscape
  • Provide medical support to ongoing research initiatives at established polarizer sites as well as industry partner research
  • Coordinate, attend and support key scientific congresses
  • Attend and contribute (if required/as needed) to medical portion of regional account planning and field sales training sessions
  • Participate in planning and execution of advisory boards seeking insights for Polarean’s technology
  • Collaborate with external experts on medical affairs initiatives including publications, medical education opportunities, training, and speaker development
  • Utilize systems to strategically map, identify, profile, and prioritize external experts based upon Polarean’s medical plan and goals and maintain accurate reporting and documentation of scientific activities
  • Adhere to internal regulatory and compliance requirements as well as policies and procedures regarding the provision of medical/scientific information


Reports directly to the Medical Science Leader

The Medical Science Liaison will work in collaboration with other field medical and internal medical affairs colleagues as well as the field commercial and technical teams to ensure that medical inquiries across our technology platform are addressed




    • Advanced degree/certification in relevant life sciences (PharmD, PhD, MD, NP/DNP, PA, etc.) with 7+ years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison in the biomedical or pharmaceutical industry


    • Exemplary work ethic and strong track record in external expert interactions
  • Energetically embraces responsibilities, demonstrates ability to achieve goals
  • Must be a pro-active team player, flexible and have the ability to work in ambiguous situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content (one-on-one and in group settings) across multiple audiences
    • Has strong initiative, demonstrates strategic thinking and functions well as part of a cross-functional team
    • Exhibits excellent time management
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently
    • Ability to work interactively with supervisor as well as field and internal team members
    • Keen understanding of the regulatory environment
    • Experience in basic science and/or clinical research and expertise in drug discovery and development process
    • Mindset that allows for agility, adaptability, and flexibility
    • Above average computer literacy, technology applications and software utilization
    • Ability to travel within region (up to 75%)
    • Required travel to medical meetings, team meetings, and other group meetings (will require some weekends)


The following skills are not required but highly desirable:

    • Experience in medical devices (e.g., CT, MRI) and/or imaging science
    • Experience in a start-up environment
    • Clinical experience in situations with direct/indirect decision making (e.g., patient care, treatment protocol development, drug therapy guidelines development, etc.)
    • Previous therapeutic experience in pulmonary and/or vascular disease
    • Post-degree training (e.g., residency, fellowship, preceptorship, etc.) in a relevant therapeutic area or imaging modality
    • Medical Science Liaison-Board Certification (MSL-BC®)
